Being bi-polar I have suffered from many manic episodes. The length they last really depends on what is going on with me. Living in the manic stage I find very frustrating because I am aware that I am spiraling out of control and everything around me is changing quickly. Nine times out of ten when in this state I need to get medical help right away.
Here is what I have found helpful:
- Be in contact with your health care team. It is easier to make treatment decisions.
- Be aware of the medications that help me in this state. That way I can inform others.
- Avoid triggers that can worsen the mania
- Maintain a regular eating and sleeping schedule
- Watch your finances
Having a wellness care plan in place is important. That way if someone has to step in and help with my care my wishes are clearly put out there.
